"The smart way to get electronic
equipment for less... is to buy 'used' electronics on eBay."
If
you want to save money on your next electronic purchase, you should consider buying
used electronic products on eBay.
But it's not like buying
a car.
When you buy a new car, several potential buyers may
have taken it for a test drive, but will still be sold as new.
Electronic
equipment can't be test driven... and then sold as new.
In
fact, if the original manufacturers box is simply opened, that item cannot be
called new. Even though it is. It can only be sold as "like new" or as "used".
Even though it isn't used.
It all started several years ago
when some computers were returned to the original manufacturer Packard-Bell, within
30 days from the purchase date, were sold again as "new". Just like cars.
Compaq
filed a lawsuit against Packard-Bell that caused a serious shake-up... and changed
the law. Compaq claimed that Packard-Bell was taking parts from used equipment
returned by customers and placing the used parts into computers being sold as
"new."
Since that lawsuit, electronic manufacturers now resell
their returned equipment as "used" instead of new. They must do it whether it
has been used one hour or not at all.
This is one of those
cases where knowing the history gives you a better understanding of the big-picture...
and the big deal.
You can find these "not new", but "not used"
items in ready supply on eBay. And they are cheap!
This type
of item is usually not sold by individuals, but by eBay PowerSellers who buy truckloads
of items... directly from the manufacturer. Look for sellers who list large quantities
of similar items.
Search on eBay for the product name or part
number. Qualify the sellers. And then look for words like "excess inventory",
"demo" or "customer returns" in the title or auction description.
Happy
searching!
